The Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication is pleased to announce the 2024 Southwest Symposium to be held at Texas State University on Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th, 2024. Join journalism, strategic communication, mass communication, and media educators as we present cutting edge research, discuss innovative pedagogical practices, and reconnect with colleagues and friends from all over the southwestern United States and beyond.

Symposium Hotel: The symposium hotel is the Embassy Suites by Hilton Round Rock, Texas. The Embassy Suites is located near University Boulevard and I-35, 2 miles west of the Texas State Round Rock campus.

Airport:
- Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS): The airport is 30 miles south of campus, all major airlines. There is not a good public transit or shuttle option, so consider arranging to share a ride with a colleague to save money, or renting a car.

Parking at Texas State:
NOTE – you must pay online to avoid getting a ticket parking on our campus! Follow the steps below to register and pay for parking. The cost is $6, total, for both days (not $6 per day). You’ll want to park east or west of Avery Hall (Google Map of Avery Hall). There are elevators in the center of the building.
Steps to register for parking:
- Click here to Order Event Permit
- Select Event Type Department Sponsored Events / Meetings
- Select your event Southwest Symposium Conference 10/25/24 (If you don’t see our event, try a different browser – I had trouble with Chrome)
- Select permit type Standard Vehicle Event.
- Click add vehicle button, add vehicle information (including license plate #), click the add button at the bottom.
- Enter your Name and click Confirm followed by the red continue button.
- Enter your email address for receipt and email attachment with permit and parking information/instructions click continue.
- You will be taken to the payment gateway to complete your payment by credit/debit card or E-Check.
Please try to park in Purple areas, not Red areas, and especially avoid parking in spaces for Prospective Students.
